The Guestroom

The most beautiful room in the hospital is the guestroom. This room was used to receive distinguished visitors. The furniture has been collected through the centuries. In the middle are a Malines table and chairs. On the left side of the simple wooden fireplace, with its hearth-plate of cast-iron and colourful tiles, you can see Flemish cupboards, made in Antwerp at the beginning of the 17th century. The style elements of these cupboards (lions’ heads, bodies of male figures and panels with scale design) were the inspiration for those of the Malines furniture from about 1900. The paintings on the walls of the guestroom are from the 17th and 18th century and were painted by members of the ‘Flemish School’.
